Many of our early Irish emigrants left from Donegal for seasonal work in Scotland and many said Slán for the last time to their native place as they boarded ships for Canada and America.

Ireland’s northern counties were heavily planted with Presbyterians / Anglicans so you will find both catholic and non-catholic emigrants.  However; the pattern of catholic emigration peaking during and after the Great Hunger is similar to the rest of Ireland, most of the early emigrants were non-catholic
